Among three seasons, late winter and early summer would be the best time of visiting Shan state. Because of possessing Humid Subtropical climate which is separated as winter dry season that is from December to March and Winter Wet Season that is from April to November, generally the best time to visit Shan State is from December to March although it may be different according to your destinations. Having many various destinations with different geography and weather, the recommended time may also be different. Since winter wet season starts from April and some regions have heavy raining since April, if your destination is hilly region or heavily raining region, your itinerary can't be fulfilled.

Shan state is accessible by all kinds of transportations except boat or cruise. For planes, there are 14 domestic airports and among them, Heho airport and Keng Tung airport are mostly used. You can also visit by train and the main and most popular track is "going-up line" from Mandalay passing through Pyin-Oo-Lwin, Naung Cho, Gokteik, Nawngpeng, Kyaukme, Hsipaw and leading to Lashio. With car, you can come from most of the cities that there is many direct car lines from major cities of Shan – Taunggyi, Lashio and Keng Tung. When you reach your destinations, there are also some bike or car rental at specific places.
